Malaysian Society for Microbiology Community Outreach Grant 2023

Introduction

“Universities for the Society” has been emphasized in recent years where learning institutions are encouraged to translate knowledge into impactful community service for the society. In line with this, the Malaysian Society for Microbiology (MSM) has introduced the MSM Community Outreach Grant to encourage the transfer of knowledge related to Microbiology to the community as well as to promote Microbiology to the public.

Grant award

Winners of the grant will each receive up to RM 5000 to conduct a Microbiology related program that will benefit the community. Two awards will be granted per year.

Terms and conditions

  • The grant application is open to both student and non-student MSM members.
  • Applicant must be an active MSM member at the time of application (new applications are accepted).
  • The proposed project will be led by one project leader and can involve up to three other members, but all members must be MSM members.
  • A proposal on the community project to be conducted must be submitted using the template which is provided. The project must be related to Microbiology, non-profit and not aligned to any political parties.
  • A CV of the project leader and members (only one page per person) must be submitted together with the MSM Community Grant 2023 application form (click here to download).

  • The grant will be for a duration of one year.
  • Grant recipient must submit a report at the end of the grant tenure including a short video that will be shown at the MSM conference for that year.
  • This grant cannot be used for research work and should focus on community service work related to Microbiology, including any Service Learning/ SULAM or STEM programs conducted by universities.
  • Successful applicants will be informed via email by 31 August 2023.
  • Grant recipient will be determined by the MSM EXCO or a panel appointed by the MSM EXCO. Decisions are final and at the absolute discretion of the MSM EXCO.
  • Any changes to the grant including project members after the grant has been awarded need to be informed in formal writing to MSM and is subject to approval by the MSM EXCO.
  • MSM reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of this grant at any time without prior notice
  • MSM reserves the right to make public information related to the grant recipients and the project for publicity purposes.
  • Acknowledgements to MSM as a funding body as well as MSM’s logo must be included in any promotional/ printed material related to the project.
